ABBA No. 95

                                                                                                                                                                                                                        25 June 2016

Dear Fellow Brahman Breeder

It's hard to believe that it is 18 months since we moved to our Casino property. We have settled in and are enjoying learning more about the district and our new community.

We were thankful to receive a wonderful break in the long dry weather with 6 inches of rain over two days in early June, with widespread rain throughout northern NSW and parts of Queensland.

We thoroughly enjoyed the 18th World Brahman Congress 2016 in Rockhampton and were pleased to sponsor the Senior Champion Brahman Bull and Senior Champion Brahman Female awards, and also award a special trophy to the Most Successful Cattle Exhibitor at the Congress.

Glen was part of the hard-working team who made the Congress such a success.  Congratulations to all involved, especially Wendy Cole as Chairman, Stud Cattle Committee.

It was a pleasure to meet the international delegates from New Caledonia, Southern Africa, South America, USA and even as far afield as Europe.

On 5th May 2016 we were pleased to provide the venue for the NSW Local Land Services Casino Beef Producers Field Day. Approximately 150 attendees enjoyed the interesting program and cars parked along the length of our driveway to the homestead and adjacent areas.

We have been a participant in the progeny test programs being conducted by ABBA as part of the Beef Information Nucleus (BIN) program since its inception, collecting valuable information relating to the genetic differences between animals for fertility and carcase traits.

Three of our bulls, Mogul Yalumba, Mogul Yokum and Lorimer Park Exodus have excelled. Mogul Yalumba and Lorimer Park Exodus have emerged as trait leaders for 200, 400 and 600-day weights.  These genetics are strongly represented in our red and grey herds.  Progeny are available for sale.

Our new sires, Garuda Mr V8 Lexus (grey) and Kandoona 10278 (red) are also proving to be very impressive.  We have been delighted by our weaning results - the weaning weights of the initial 50 purebred calves of the season averaged 252 kg, with six animals above 300kg.

We are pleased with our ongoing Show successes, which have led to Mogul being awarded the Kyabra Trophy (for NSW) for the 23rd time in 2016.

Our Open Day for 2016 will be held on Sunday 21 August, when you will be able to inspect the eight bulls we will be selling at the 8th Bizzy Invitational Bull and Stud Female Sale to be held at Grafton Saleyards on Saturday 3 September 2016.

We were very saddened by the death of our friend and fellow Brahman breeder, Warren Newcombe, who had joined with us in offering quality cattle at all seven of the previous sales. We will notice his absence this year.

Prior to the Grafton sale, on Saturday 30 July, we will be offering nine grey and red bulls at the Casino All Breeds Bull and Female Sale.  We look forward to seeing you there.

We wish you all the best in the coming year.
